Functions
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is the government agency responsible for the development, improvement, management, and conservation of the country’s fisheries and aquatic resources.
- Prepare and implement a comprehensive National Fisheries Industry Development Plan.
- Issue licenses for commercial fishing vessels and ID cards for fishworkers.
- Monitor and review joint fishing agreements to ensure compliance with international commitments.
- Formulate and implement a Comprehensive Fishery Research and Development Program.
- Provide support services in production, processing, and marketing.
- Enforce all laws, formulate and enforce rules governing conservation and management of resources.
- Assist LGUs in fisheries resource development and management.
- Perform other related functions for conservation and utilization of aquatic resources.
