Functions

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is the government agency responsible for the development, improvement, management, and conservation of the country’s fisheries and aquatic resources.

  • Prepare and implement a comprehensive National Fisheries Industry Development Plan.
  • Issue licenses for commercial fishing vessels and ID cards for fishworkers.
  • Monitor and review joint fishing agreements to ensure compliance with international commitments.
  • Formulate and implement a Comprehensive Fishery Research and Development Program.
  • Provide support services in production, processing, and marketing.
  • Enforce all laws, formulate and enforce rules governing conservation and management of resources.
  • Assist LGUs in fisheries resource development and management.
  • Perform other related functions for conservation and utilization of aquatic resources.
