The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources IV-A dispersed a total of 10,000 GETExcel tilapia fingerlings in Eloy Dam Palangue II, Naic, Cavite under the Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa (BASIL) Project on May 25, 2022.

Batangas Inland Fisheries Technology and Outreach Station (BIFTOS) Chief Ms. Nenita S. Kawit
led the dispersal together with Ms. Marinel A. Punzalan, The OIC-Provincial Fisheries Officer of
Cavite, and representatives from the National Irrigation Authority Cavite-Batangas, and LGU Naic.

The BASIL Project aims to revive the country’s minor and major bodies of water to optimize their economic benefits and repopulate indigenous species for biodiversity conservation and food sufficiency.

To ensure the sustainability of the project, an orientation was conducted by the BIFTOS team after the dispersal at Palague Agrarian Reform Cooperative Multipurpose Hall. Fifteen (15) farmers/fisherfolk who have been identified as beneficiaries of the project attended the orientation.

In March 2021, the Eloy Dam was identified thru the help of LGU Naic, and BFAR IV-A through BIFTOS, conducted an assessment by ocular inspection and water quality analysis. Being a source of food for the nearby residents, the dam became one of the target management areas for stock enhancement for CY 2022. (ablatigay)
