As part of the implementation of Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa (BASIL) Program of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the Batangas Inland Fisheries Technology Outreach Station (BIFTOS) and the Provincial Fisheries Office – Cavite (PFO-Cavite) led the installation of signage at Eloy Dam, Palangue II,
Naic, Cavite on August 5, 2022.

As a backgrounder, BFAR 4A dispersed 10,000 tilapia fingerlings in Eloy Dam last May 25. This was followed by the formation of a fisherfolk organization that will manage and monitor the dam in line with
the objectives of BASIL. During the orientation, BFAR suggested limiting the fishing activities in the dam
to ensure the repopulation of fish particularly tilapia. The installed signage will guide nearby residents
on the conservation and management of the dam.

Ms. Nenita S. Kawit, chief of BIFTOS and Ms. Marinel A. Punzalan, OIC, PFO-Cavite, were present during the activity along with their staff. The Municipal Agriculture Office of Naic sent a representative to support the activity.

The fisherfolk organization will be holding a harvest festival by October 2022. (ablatigay)
