March 4, 2026 – BFAR CALABARZON conducted a Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Caravan in the Municipality of San Francisco, Quezon, in partnership with the Local Government Unit through its Municipal Agriculture Office.

During the activity, training sessions were conducted on proper fish processing methods such as drying, fermentation, and smoking to help increase the income of fisherfolk and improve the quality of their products. The event was attended by members of fisherfolk groups from Barangay Pagsangahan and Don Juan Verselo (DJV). A training on salt production was also conducted in preparation for their upcoming “Asinan” (salt-making) project.

Aside from the trainings, site visits, and consultations were conducted, led by Regional Director Sammy Malvas, for livelihood identification and area validation. This aimed to identify additional projects that could be provided to fisherfolk organizations, such as drying equipment, product storage facilities, and bagoong (fermented fish paste) production facilities.
