The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 4A (BFAR 4A)- Provincial Fisheries Office (PFO)- Laguna awarded tilapia fingerlings and IEC materials to the Calamba City fisherfolk at Baywalk Area, Brgy. Lingga, Calamba City, Laguna on August 19, 2020.
The awarding of fingerlings is under the collaborative project of National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI)- BFAR 4A’s entitled “Technology Promotion on the Use of Bigger Size Fingerlings”. The project aims to produce tilapia in a short period of time using this technology
Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between BFAR 4A, NFRDI, and the five (5) beneficiaries was conducted prior to the awarding of 250,000 pieces of tilapia fingerlings from NFRDI, Butong Batangas. Each beneficiary received 50,000 fingerlings and expected to be marketable three to four months. The BFAR 4A and Local Government Units (LGUs) will regularly monitor the rearing of tilapia until harvest.
Moreover, 25 sets of IEC Materials were distributed to the fisherfolk of Brgy. Lingga, Calamba City. Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials consisted of one (1) MMK Eco-bag and five (5) technoguides on the following:
- Paraan ng Paggawa ng Daing
- Paraan ng Paggawa ng Tinapa
- Paraan ng Paggawa ng De Boteng Isda sa Olive or Corn Oil
- Bangus Deboning
- Iba’t-ibang Produkto mula sa Purong Laman ng Isda
The BFAR 4A- PFO-Laguna facilitated the transport of tilapia fingerlings from NFRDI-Butong, Batangas to Calamba City. The said activity was attended by Ms. Emiliana C. Casbadillo, OIC-PFO Laguna and Ms. Jamielee Santiago, PFO-Laguna Staff, and Regional Fisheries Unit (RFIU), Mary Frietzy R. Alvarez and Ms. Anjelica Tiarra C. Dela Cruz in coordination with Ms. Cynthia C. Buen of City Agriculture Office (CAO)-Calamba
