On August 3, 2020, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources IV-A (BFAR 4A) through the Fisheries Resource Protection Group or FRPG responded to the Philippine National Police Maritime Group (PNP-MG)- Lucena City to conduct an on-the-spot examination on the closed elf van with plate no. ZMG 946 loaded with ten (10) boxes of big-eyed scad or locally known as “matangbaka”. The said species was examined by Mr. Arcel Jamero (fish examiner). After a thorough examination, it was established that the fishes were caught using explosives.

A 38 years old (driver of van), resident of Brgy. Bario, Luwal, Mauban Quezon was apprehended for violating RA 8550 as amended by RA 10654, Sec. 126 ( Possessing, dealing in or disposing of illegally caught or taken fish). The PNP-MG is currently in the process of preparing the necessary documents for filing of appropriate charges to the Regional Trial Court of Lucena City.
